Reset the Trip-ometer: EA Founder Set to Take On Another Adventure

by Adam Thorwart | 1月 03, 2014

2014 the year for top grossing education apps?

It is an indisputable fact that Trip Hawkins stamped his name firmly as one of the most forward thinking individuals in the gaming community. He is the man behind not only Electronic Arts, but also 3DO and Digital Chocolate which was among the first companies dedicated solely to mobile gaming. In 2012 he relinquished his role as CEO of Digital Chocolate and has since moved on to his next venture – If You Can. The first app – IF... - is set to be released in January and is rumored to be a free-to-play game for iOS. If it is truly a free-to-play game then the only ways to monetize are via in-app purchases or advertisments.

Other platform support may follow if the launch of the first title is successful.

In 2013, mobile messaging apps rose to prominence on the back of successful apps like WhatsApp Messenger and WeChat. 2014 could end up being the year that education apps take over and Hawkins’ newest venture is aimed at helping children develop social and emotional skills for ages 6+. According to CNNMoney (visit this link for more game details) Hawkins was able to raise $3 million as an initial investment from various seed and angel investors.
