Today (November 9th) is World Usability Day 2017. This blog post takes a look back at a recent workshop hosted by our UX Innovation Practice.
In September 2017, Strategy Analytics gathered together UX experts from across a spectrum of industries, including mobile devices, service providers, smart home, and automotive, to participate in a dynamic workshop to discuss the implications of emerging disruptive technologies on planning and executing UX Strategy.

The workshop, titled ‘Harnessing Technology Disruption to Drive UX Strategy Innovation’, was hosted by experts from Strategy Analytics’ UX Innovation Practice, and had the following objectives:
- Understand how consumer, technology and UX trends will impact UX strategy planning in the next 3-5 years
- Identify the challenges that UX professionals face in conducting effective user-centric research
- Explore how to anticipate and plan for the impact of disruptive technologies on your UX Strategy and how to harness these new opportunities to drive forward UX innovation
- Discover how Strategy Analytics has developed innovative approaches to user research in order to solve problems for clients from a cross-section of industries that focus on the connected consumer
- Learn from case-studies based on UX projects conducted in the areas of automotive, intelligent home, devices and media
Through a series of presentations from Strategy Analytics’ UX analysts, as well as group breakout sessions, the following key themes emerged from the workshop, related to both technological challenges faced when trying to determine a UX strategy, as well as organizational barriers that attendees have to overcome:
Technological Challenges |
- Choosing which platforms to commit resources to is difficult when technology changes so frequently
- Voice and Natural Interaction are changing user expectations of the experience. But how?
- Big Data creates serious ethical and privacy concerns for users.
- Technology is always changing so it’s hard to keep up
|
Organizational Challenges |
- Internal Silos and Poor Coordination
- Innovations Tech-Driven Not User-Driven
- Producing Actionable Research Outputs
