AppOptix data from Q2 2018 shows that the most popular gaming category was Arcade & Action, with Brain & Puzzle following closely behind. Pokémon Go (12.4 hrs/mo on average) and Words With Friends 2 (3.6 hrs/mo on average) were the most played games in these categories, respectively. Racing and Sports gaming apps are among the least popular categories for mobile gamers.  Gaming category popularity rankings have held consistent over the past six quarters. Although no category has overtaken or fallen below another in this period of time, it will be worth keeping an eye on whether Brain & Puzzle will overtake Arcade & Action by 2019 given the trend from Q1 and Q2 2018.
