As per the latest research from Strategy Analytics’ WSS service, global smartphone wholesale revenues will increase +2% YoY in 2022. It will maintain the upwards track all throughout the forecast window till 2027. Global smartphone wholesale ASP crossed $300 mark in 2021 and this is the highest price in the smartphone industry since 2013.
South Korea and Japan will deliver the highest average selling prices (ASP) for smartphones while parts of Africa and Asia Pacific will generate the lowest ASPs. Japan used to be the country with the highest smartphone wholesale ASP through 2020. However, it yielded the leading position to South Korea in 2021. The solid and quick uptake of Samsung higher-priced foldable models in South Korea is the main reason behind the soaring ASP. We expect South Korea will maintain the leading position ahead of Japan by smartphone ASP by 2027, considering the country’s advantage on tech innovations led by Samsung and other companies. In contrast, the regulatory restriction on smartphone subsidies in Japan has capped the smartphone price growth recent years.
The ASP growth pattern between mature markets and emerging markets would be different during the forecast window due to difference in smartphone penetration, GDP, 5G life cycle, population, etc.
In this report, we talk about the ASP patter of 88 countries across all regions. This report is a must-read for all industry stake holders including smartphone vendors, ODMs, network operators, OTT players, etc.
