Blackberry Partners with Optiemus Infracom for South Asia

by Rajeev Nair | 2月 06, 2017

Blackberry has partnered with Optiemus Infracom for local manufacturing, distribution and after sale service support for its smartphones in the India and its neighbouring countries. Blackberry as in the global arena, continues to hold miniscule market share in India, per our latest research available here, from the Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) Service.

The partnership though was announced in November 2016, under the current agreement, Blackberry would continue to develop software solutions and manage the security. The vendor has gone for a similar third party licencing agreement with TCL-Alcatel globally and PT BlackBerry Merah Putih in Indonesia.

The partnership also complements the ‘Make in India’ initiative from government that promotes local manufacturing. Optiemus Infracom already contract manufactures devices for vendors such as LG, HTC etc. in the Indian market. We are expecting the Indian smartphone market to grow to be the second largest globally by 2018.
