Smartglasses in India

by Neil Mawston | 6月 10, 2022

India has potential to be one of the biggest smartglasses markets in the world. There are millions of affluent consumers, a tech-savvy culture, and a huge established base of experienced smartphone owners.

Indian firms are starting to take an interest.

Reliance, a carrier, has dabbled with Jio Glass. Titan, an eyewear vendor, offers the EyeX Smart Frame with fitness tracker (pedometer), open-ear speakers, and Bluetooth for US$125 retail. Noise Labs, a tech incubator, looks set to launch one of India's most affordable camera-glasses at well under US$100.

Of course, pricing will be critical in this notoriously price-sensitive market. Price it too low, and the feature-set will be too weak. Price it too high, and the addressable audience will be too niche to scale up.

Marketing in this vast landscape will also be vital. You need maximum brand awareness in a country of a billion people. For national appeal, you probably need to engage the services of Bollywood or cricket. Expect to see a famous cricket player wearing smartglasses on or off the field of play in the next year or two...
