Wearables Makers Push into Healthcare

by Neil Mawston | 2月 21, 2019

Our WDE (Wearables) service is noticing a growing push into wearable healthcare.

Early pioneers, like Omron Japan, were exploring this space as early as 2014, with models that monitor general wellness or health.

But the topic really broke cover when Apple Watch teamed up with health insurers and began inserting more healthcare-led features into their hardware, software and apps during 2018. For example, the Series 4 integrated fall-detection and emergency-SOS for seniors.

Now, in 2019, Samsung is jumping on the bandwagon. Its new Watch Active smartwatch includes a blood-pressure monitor, an industry first for mainstream brands.

Wearables developers are getting serious about healthcare, a $3 trillion industry.
