Global Brands Including Booking.com, British Gas, ITV, Pizza Hut Delivery and Subway launched Live RCS business messaging services - The GSMA announced that multiple global brands including 1-800 Contacts, 1-800-Flowers.com, Booking.com, ITV, Snaptravel and Subway have launched live trials of RCS Business Messaging based on the GSMA’s Universal Profile for Advanced Messaging (UP). The service upgrades existing SMS business messaging to create a richer and more interactive experience for B2C customers, allowing them to engage directly with brands within the messaging platform via artificial intelligence and chatbots. There are a number of live demonstrations being showcased at the GSMA Innovation City at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This is similar to what Vodafone announced on Day 1 of MWC 2018. RCS Business Messaging is being adopted by global brands who see the opportunities it presents to engage with B2C customers in a more interactive and compelling way. This is how it works - RCS is incorporated natively into a phone’s default messaging service and enables users to enjoy enhanced messaging services such as group chat, video, gifs, file and location sharing, amongst many others, without needing to download an app. RCS Business Messaging takes this further by allowing subscribers to engage directly with multiple brands from one messaging platform to make restaurant reservations, book train tickets or make purchases without having to juggle numerous apps. We expect to see RCS momentum getting strong this year.

Mavenir today announced its industry first Mobile-Native Unified Communications and Collaboration as a Service (mUCaaS) solution, designed to address the specific mobility needs of SOHO and SMBs. Using mobile native wireless technologies while still supporting current communications desktop usage is a paradigm shift compared to traditional UCaaS offerings. Mavenir is leveraging its expertise in mobile networks with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and RCS, the solution provides new recurring-revenue opportunities for mobile network operators (MNOs) while addressing the business need for mobile communications for the workforce. MNOs are under pressure in the consumer market with flat growth, an intensive price war on voice and data plans, and fierce competition from OTT applications. The Enterprise market offers a better outlook with UCaaS conferencing projecting growth of 10.8% CAGR1 from 2016-2021, higher ARPU and stickiness, according to our ‘The State of the Global Enterprise Mobile SaaS Market 2016-2021’ report.

Previously, Strategy Analytics predicted that the emergence of digital transformation initiatives among enterprises, and embedded big data analytics, will serve as the foundation of digital transformation and provide enterprise millions in annual savings. In 2018, we will notice that Big Data is beginning to cross a chasm into the mainstream. Furthermore, Big Data, whether from IoT or more traditional sources, is going to live and be processed in the cloud. This year we expect about 40 - 45% of new Big Data workloads to be cloud-based.

Sophos unveiled its Sophos Mobile 8 to secure devices and endpoints - the latest version of its Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) and mobile security solution. This new version lets system administrators manage and secure corporate-owned and personal Mac, Windows, and mobile endpoints in the cloud-based Sophos Central management platform to deliver a simpler management strategy for businesses of any size. Enterprise IT can now manage their macOS computers in the same console they manage Windows, iOS and Android devices, the self-service portal makes enrolling Macs fuss-free for employees who want to bring their own Macs to work. To succeed and thrive in the reality of BYOD and heterogeneous environments, IT organizations need better, more aggressive tools that support and enable today’s diverse workspaces. Enterprise mobility strategies will converge as more organizations embrace UEM and new co-management capabilities will support organizations wanting to migrate to a more modern UEM approach.
