Outsourced Manufacturing Growing Share

by Ville-Petteri Ukonaho | 2月 25, 2017

Strategy Analytics Emerging Devices Strategies (EDS) Service has released a new report describing the growing importance of outsourced manufacturing.

The number of outsourced manufactured handsets will increase in 2017(F), up 9% from 2016. Overall the EMS/ODM business is growing. As vendors streamline organizations and improve supply chains, an increasing amount of manufacturing is being shifted to contract manufacturers.

Foxconn continues to be the largest contract manufacturer capturing lions share of the volumes. Pegatron continues to be the second largest service provider and Wistron with new agreements from Apple strengthens its position. Overall contract manufacturing is growing in importance as vendors streamline their cost structures and shift manufacturing to partners. Some vendors such as HMD or LeEco rely solely on contract manufacturing to provide the devices.

The growing importance of Indian market and "Make in India" initiative pushes vendors to seek partners from Indian market to assemble or manufacture devices within the country.

Regions covered in the report are North America, Central & Latin America, Western Europe, Central & Eastern Europe, Africa Middle East and Asia Pacific. The report also includes historical data for the 2005 to 2017(Forecast) period. This extensive report is a valuable tool for any mobile stakeholder that wants to track handset vendors' operational performances.
