Strategy Analytics Wearables Service brings you daily coverage of the new decade’s first and largest consumer electronics convention: CES 2020. The show kicks off from Las Vegas this week from Tues Jan 7 – Fri Jan 10 with wearables and health/fitness tech again having a strong presence on the show floor. Announcements are expected across various wearable device types with a number of device launches expected including:
- Huami, maker of Amazfit wearables, and the longtime partner of Xiaomi in manufacturing the Mi Band fitness band line, will be showcasing a handful of new wearable products spanning across device types.These include the Amazfit Bip S, and rumored new Amazfit truly wireless earbuds, and potentially also smart shoes.
- On the smartwatch side, Suunto surprised with their first Wear OS device, the Suunto 7.Meanwhile, Fossil launched a new smartwatch to their Diesel sub-brand, the Diesel Fadelite, as well as showcasing the recently announced Skagen Flaster 3.
- Healthcare wearables are gaining traction as Withings iterates on it’s ECG feature watch line with the ScanWatch, combining EKG with sleep apnea detection.Omron is also showcasing the Omron HeartGuide FDA approved blood pressure watch, and also the Omron Complete which includes both blood pressure and EKG sensing.
- Child tracker watches are making a splash, with Coolpad announcing their updated Dyno 2 children’s smartwatch, eliminating the flat-tire in favor of a round screen, and switching to gender neutral coloring.
- Hearables have been experiencing explosive growth (albeit from a low base) and a myriad of truly wireless earbuds are expected at the show this year, including new devices from Jabra, Shure, Altec-Lansing, Audio Technica, Huami Amazfit, and others.
- Smartglasses such as Amazon’s Echo Frames and Bose Frames are expected to be on display, and are coming down the price curve due to forgoing visual AR (a heads-up display), in favor of audio-AR for virtual assistant access. Sales in the consumer space will start with a focus on audio AR, with visual-AR remaining primarily in the enterprise space for at least a couple more years. TCL has also announced a wearable display, Vuzix is showcasing their Vuzix Labs Smart Swim water sports goggle attachment, and Panosonic has announced HDR capable UHD VR glasses.
