Nothing Phone (1): Balanced Smartphone but Needs to Hustle Its Way Out

by Abhilash Kumar | 7月 14, 2022

The London based brand Nothing has launched its maiden smartphone Nothing Phone (1) on July 12th 2022. The brand has been successful in creating buzz around it.

Nothing phone (1) is 5G enabled with unique ID design and reasonable hardware features. Glyph interface, Snapdragon 778+, Sony and Samsung camera sensors, flexible OLED and wireless/reverse charging are some of the key specs of the device. We believe it’s a well balanced device for daily use at a reasonable price. It will be manufactured/assembled in India, while the company is UK-based with investments from Google etc.

Nothing Phone (1) is priced under US$300-399 band (wholesale price). It will be sold in India and Europe primarily via online channel by working with retailer and carrier partners, including Flipkart, O2 and T-Mobile etc.

However, given the rising inflation, on and off COVID waves, we really doubt the timing of launch. Also, the intense competition from Chinese OEMs will make things difficult for Nothing to hustle its way out.

This detailed report talks about the Nothing Phone (1), stating why this is an important launch and what are the challenges ahead for the vendor. We believe this report is a must read for existing smartphone OEMs including “Nothing” and all key stakeholders of the telecom ecosystem.
