Qualcomm today signed non-binding MoUs for component sales with OPPO, Xiaomi, and vivo in Beijing during Trump’s visit in China. The deals combined will bring Qualcomm up to $12 billion revenue in the next 3 year. These bilateral deals were signed by the CEOs of these companies and witnessed by the presidents of the two nations.
It is win-win situation for Qualcomm, OPPO, Xiaomi, and vivo.
For Qualcomm, the high-profile deals would help the chipset vendor to strengthen its financial outlook. It is especially helpful when the top three smartphone vendors (Samsung, Apple, and Huawei) are pushing hard for their own chipset. In Q3 2017, OPPO and Xiaomi both are among the top five vendors in global smartphone market, while vivo is among top five vendors in China and in India.
For OPPO, Xiaomi, and vivo, the deal will help them to secure the supply of key components. In addition to that, the quality/reputation of Qualcomm’s chipset and its strong patent portfolio would play a positive role behind their global expansion, which is critical for these three vendors to keep the current momentum.
