In the latest forecast report from our Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) services: Global Smartphone Sales Forecast for 88 Countries : 2007 to 2022, we forecast global smartphone sales will grow at a modest +3% YoY in 2016. China, USA and India will maintain top 3 list. While facing economic headwinds, Brail will remain as the fourth largest country but to see negative growth rate this year. Indonesia will overtake Japan being the fifth largest country in 2016, mainly driven by healthy demand of 3G and 4G low cost Android smartphones.

According to our Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) services, Samsung still maintained the largest position in Indonesia smartphone market during Q1 2016, followed by local vendors Smartfren and Advan Digital. Chinese OEM OPPO also posted a strong momentum in the country.

Furthermore, we forecast Indonesia will jump into US$10 billion club by smartphone revenue in 2017, following China, USA, India, Japan and UK.
