Google Pixel 6a 5G Smartphone Ranking High in Many Markets in Q3’22

by Juha Winter | 11月 28, 2022

The latest generation of Google’s value-oriented Pixel series smartphone, the Pixel 6a, was launched in late July, a couple of months ahead of the new flagship Pixel 7 / Pixel 7 Pro. This affordable, yet very capable device seems to have hit the sweet spot in many markets, ranking as high as no.6 in Japan in the third quarter of 2022, according to latest research from Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT). In a market that is very much dominated by Apple and domestic vendors such as Sharp and Sony, and to a lesser extent Samsung, the appearance of the Google Pixel in the top-10 is a rare event.

In its home market, the United States, the Pixel 6a ranked as no.25, but is expected to rise in the coming quarters as the older flagships Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which were available at reduced prices in Q3, will be retired. In Canada, the Pixel 6a ranked as no.23, higher than any other Pixel model, and actually one of the few non-Apple, non-Samsung smartphone models to appear in the top-25 besides two TCL models and a single OnePlus model.

What about Western Europe? The Pixel 6a ranked as no.23 in Germany, for example, the largest market in WE, and somewhat lower in the UK and France. We expect it to climb to higher ranks in the final quarter of 2022.
