The second quarter of 2022 was very strong for Samsung in terms of smartphone shipments in Mexico, the South Korean vendor having no less than six different models in the top-10 list of best-sellers in the country, according to recent research from Strategy Analytics' Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service. The mid-range, 5G-enabled smartphone Galaxy A53 took the first spot, followed by the flagship S22 5G that had started to ship in large volumes in Q2. Other Samsung models, such as the A13 (4G), S21 FE 5G, A23 (4G), and S22 Ultra 5G also appeared in the top-10 as shown in the exhibit below.
What’s perhaps even more interesting is that Xiaomi achieved it’s highest ranking ever in Mexico with the Redmi Note 11 4G, ranking as no.3 in Q2’22, having climbed up five ranks from the previous quarter. Xiaomi has been making steady gains in Mexico, first displacing LG and Apple in 2020, then Huawei in 2021, and finally surpassing even Lenovo-Motorola in the first half of 2022. It hasn’t been able to challenge the market leader Samsung yet, but if it can stay on the growth path, it will be a concern for Samsung.
