The two major local smartphone vendors in Turkey, General Mobile and Vestel, performed very strongly in terms of smartphones shipped in their home country in the third quarter of 2018 – both vendors managed to grow between 70 and 210 percent year-on-year. What’s more, together they had 5 out 10 best-selling smartphone models on the top-10 list in Q3’18, according to the recent research published by Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service. In terms of popular smartphone models, the two local vendors were beaten only by Samsung that still remained the clear no.1 vendor in Turkey.
General Mobile’s growth in Turkey was fueled by the vendor’s portfolio renewal, with many new models having been launched in mid-Q2, and in Q3, the shipments of those new, popular models such as the GM 8 and GM 8 Go were in full swing. Vestel also had launched new models in Q2 which were selling like hot cakes in Q3. Samsung fought back with its new J4 and J6 models, however, and the Galaxy S9 and S8 flagships also continued their strong sales performance. Apple, on the other hand, did not have a strong Q3, as the new models were not yet shipping in volumes, and the vendor ranked as no.4 overall in terms of shipments. The best-selling iPhone model was the iPhone 8, just outside of the top-10.
