The fourth quarter of 2017 witnessed declining year-on-year smartphone shipments in China, with only a handful of vendors experiencing significant growth. Xiaomi was one of these vendors, ranking fourth overall as a vendor in China and having two devices in the top-10 of bestselling smartphone models. Xiaomi had even more success in India, where it overtook Samsung for the no.1 spot in the market and had the most models in the top-10, as reported by our Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service.
In China, however, the other domestic vendors still have the upper hand when it comes to models. Huawei had the most models in the top-100 overall, and Oppo had the most models in the top-10, even though the top is fragmented between five vendors, Apple being one of them. Indeed, the all-new iPhone X was a very popular device in China in Q4 2017, topping the chart with a good margin.
