Samsung J Series Smartphone Models Dominate Emerging Markets in Q2 2017

The 30 largest or otherwise important smartphone markets in the world cover about 80 percent of all smartphone shipments globally. Strategy Analytics’ Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) service offers highly granular model-level shipment and market share data, listing between 50 and 200 best-selling smartphone models for each of these countries. The service covers a huge 88 countries in total. Additionally, the service includes wholesale ASPs, revenue, value share, and specs by model.

Looking exclusively at the markets outside of the top-30, we have countries such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Malaysia in Asia Pacific as well as countries such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia in Africa Middle East. Argentina and Colombia are significant markets in Central and Latin America.

What were the best-selling smartphone models in each of these countries? That question is easily answered by research published by the SMT service, titled “Smartphone Shipments & Marketshare by Model in 59 Countries: Q2 2017 (Rest of the 88 Countries)”. What we can say is that by looking at the “rest of the 88” countries in aggregate terms, Samsung has four out of five best-selling models on average, but Apple has one model in the top-5, too. And with few exceptions, those Samsung models are from the J Series. Clients of our SMT service can see the report on the top-120 most popular models globally across these countries.
