Strategy Analytics’ PriceTRAX service found this week that all 3 major mobile operators in Spain finally started offering unlimited data on their mobile plans. Previously Vodafone was the only Spanish operator offering unlimited plans but this week they had a drastic cull of available contracts. Vodafone decreased their plan portfolio by 60%, putting all their eggs in the unlimited data basket (for online smartphone sales). But which operator offers the best value? It’s difficult to compare directly because they all have different contract terms and offers.
Orange Spain’s plans usually run for 24 months, Vodafone’s contracts are 36 months and Movistar has 1 month rolling plans associated with finance terms that can vary by smartphone.
All 3 operators are currently offering 12 month discounts on the following unlimited plans: Go Top (Orange), Unlimited Total (Vodafone) and Contracto Infinito (Movistar).
PriceTRAX provides a number of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) metrics. We compared the TCO over 36 months (TCO36m) across the 3 operators for this week (w/c 27th April 2020). Orange had the lowest TCO36m for Apple’s new smartphones (iP11, iP11 Pro & iP11 Pro Max) and Vodafone offered the best value for Samsung’s flagships (S20 5G, S20+ 5G & S20 Ultra 5G). Interestingly Orange had the highest TCO36m for Samsung devices.
