India smartphone market declined by -5% sequentially in Q2 2022. This was on account of consumers taking a more cautious approach from a steadily stiffening economic scenario. Many of the smartphone use case from the COVID era weakening also limited the demand for fresh devices. On an annual basis the India market did witness a growth of 8% in the quarter. However, this growth was mostly as a result of the corresponding quarter of 2021 being impacted by the second wave of COVID.
Xiaomi, Vivo and Realme were the top three vendors with market shares of 19.8%, 17% and 16.7% respectively. The top five continue their grip on the market but their annual performance over the quarters have been in variance with each other.

In the short term , vendors need to be focused as India market gears up for the festive buying season on H2 2022. Whilst in the long term as the 5G network rolls out and this new era battle takes center-stage.
