BBK’s Wholesale Handset Revenue’s Declined by -28% YoY in Q1 2022

BBK’s Global Wholesale Handset Revenues declined by -28% YoY and -11% QoQ, in Q1 2022. Three of the four brands representing it, in Vivo, OPPO, OnePlus too declined as Realme grew its revenues. While Vivo and OPPO declined by -32%, OnePlus revenues plummeted by -36%. BBK’s global revenue share too declined by -2% and to 18% in Q1 2022, from over a year ago. Asia Pacific constituted 85% of the global revenues, for this umbrella entity, in the quarter. It being the case due to the strong presence of Vivo, OPPO, Realme and OnePlus in top markets of China, India and South-East Asia. In Asia pacific, while BBK as a whole declined by -32% all its four constituent  brands too declined in the quarter.

BBK group has been among the most aggressive of all handset vendors in geographical expansion in recent times. Of particular to note is the diversification of Realme and OPPO over the last four quarters to regions like Western Europe, Middle East Africa, Central and Latin America.

With four brands operating across all the key price tiers in multitude of regions a tough macroeconomic environment, supply issues and war in Europe have come back to challenge BBK’s global ambitions. How can it get back the momentum it held a while back?
