New research from SA shows HarmonyOS was the 3rd largest smartphone platform and reached a record high of 4% marketshare in China during Q1 2022, up from zero just a year ago.

HarmonyOS is the fastest-growing smartphone operating system in China, the world's biggest market. It is easily outgrowing rivals Android and Apple iOS (from a low base).

HarmonyOS is benefiting from a better 2.0 software upgrade in 2021 and solid local support from Huawei and Honor 5G handsets during 2022.

Can HarmonyOS continue growing into 2023?

Yes, we think it can.

There is plenty of upside potential with new developers, new apps, new phone models, new OEM partners, new Harmony smartwatch bundles, and new retail channels.

The hard part, of course, will be expanding outside the home base of China. HarmonyOS may find some traction in China-friendly countries, such as Russia or Pakistan, but it will struggle in Western or emerging markets where support channels so far are limited.
