India Smartphones Q1 2022: Samsung regains second spot despite strong YoY growth from realme .

by David Kerr | 4月 28, 2022

Realme was the standout smartphone brand among the top 5 in India, growing 40% on a YoY basis in Q1 2022 compared to a 3% decline in the total market.

Xiaomi continued to lead the India smartphone market followed by Samsung and Realme. Samsung has been closing the volume gap with Xiaomi and managed to regain second spot with a solid Q1 2022 driven by its flagship S22 and value based A series models.

While  Xiaomi managed to retain leadership in the India smartphone market in Q1 2022 the gap between the market leader and second place has narrowed dramatically to only +3pts.  Apple posted a strong quarter up 20% YoY still struggles to approach even 5% share in volume terms.

Detailed analysis of the latest quarter and estimates for both smartphones and handsets are available here from our Smartphone Country Share Tracker (SCST) Service.

The Indian smartphone competition is set to escalate with numerous new models from the top 5 who control over 80% of the market. Supply chain issues remain signficant but thankfully the covid 19 impact was moderate in terms of Q1.

The gap between number 1 Xiaomi and number two Samsung continues to close. Likewise the race between Samsung, Realme and vivo in volume terms is getting so close that a photo finish may be needed moving forward.
