Q3’17: Online Smartphone Share in India Hit Record Levels

The Indian Smartphone Market’s double digit growth in Q3 2017 was marked by a sharp increase in the share of Online Channels. In our latest report available here from the Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) Service, smartphone volumes via eCommerce channels itself grew by 34% sequentially in the quarter.

With the festive season coinciding, the online channel has been traditionally strong in India, in the third quarter. Flagship sales event like Flipkart’s Big Billion Day Sale and Amazon’s Great Indian Sale offer heavy festive discounts and attractive deals on smartphones. However, despite this sharp spurt offline channels dominate though.

The report analyses the seven different sub channels for smartphones in India and by quarter. It also offers insights into the distribution orientation of multiple smartphone vendors in the country and what can we expect in the near term. It is a valuable tool for many of the existing smartphone vendors, planning to pursue Omni channel strategy or for new entrants who want to narrow down on a single channel.
