Going against the trend of Big is better, ‘NanoPhone C’, the world’s smallest GSM Phone has been launched in India. The phone made by Russian firm Elari has been launched by e-commerce platform Yerha.com. Feature phones constituted 55% of the overall handset shipments to the Indian market, per out last quarterly report on India from the Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) Service.

The feature phone with dimensions of 94.4x35.85x7.6mm weighs in just 30 grams and has a metallic make. Powered by MediaTek MT6261D chip, its key features include Dual SIM, voice and call recording and Bluetooth connection to Android and iOS smartphones. The feature phone has a wholesale price of US$55.

We at Strategy Analytics, are however not very optimistic of the device doing well, with its price as a key detriment. Wholesale Average Selling Price (ASP’s) of feature phones in India in 2017 are expected to be less than half of what the Nano Phone C commands. Other challenges include, its limited channel availability, as the device sales being confined to only the online segment.  Indian feature phone market is heavily cluttered and strong competition from local vendors as well as the likes of HMD Nokia.
