Softbank Needs to Have More Handset Partners Beyond Apple from 2018

by Woody Oh | 2月 24, 2017

According to the recently-published Japan Handset by Operator Tracker under Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) service, the combined market share of top three handset vendors across Softbank skyrocketed to 90% level during Q4 2016, mostly driven by Apple.

We think that this trend will last for at least two more years as the rumored AMOLED iPhone, expected to be available in the 2nd half of this year, will generate the huge demand at this Japanese mobile operator. However, it would be recommended that Softbank needs to start building up diverse relations with more handset OEM's from 2018 as we expect bigger handset dynamics change than expected to happen from that time around.

The in-detail handset volume by vendor and market share across all three major Japanese carriers including Softbank can be found at this report, published under HCST service.
