iPhone 6s Series Price Cut in India - Minimal Impact Likely

by Rajeev Nair | 9月 16, 2016

Ahead of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus launch in the Indian market in October. Apple in a customary move has slashed the prices of the higher variants (128 GB Versions) of the iPhone 6s and 6Plus. The price cuts are applicable on the 64 GB versions of the iPhone SE as well. We expect minimal impact on the overall volumes for Apple due to this move, as the new prices are applicable on iPhone variants which have limited traction in the Indian market. Even with the revised prices these models are out of the reach for most Indian consumers.

Apple’s premium positioning is a limiting factor in a non-subsidised market such as India which is dominated by the Entry and Mid-Priced smartphones. Indian smartphone market continues to be a challenge for Apple with declining market shares. The vendor was ranked 10th in the country with 2% market share in Q2 2016, per our latest report on the Indian Smartphone Market, from the Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) Service.

It is the older versions like iPhone 5s, that have been driving volumes for the vendor in India in H1 2016, per our latest report on stand out models in India from the new Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) Service.
