Apple has been looking to grow its market share beyond single digits in the Indian Smartphone market and in a fresh move has reapplied to the Indian government, seeking permission to ship refurbished iPhones into the country. Apple managed to capture just 4% of the Indian Smartphone market in 2015, per our report available here from the Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) service.
The vendor has witnessed relatively more traction for its older iPhone models like 5s and 5c selling at lower prices in the Indian market. There is considerable opposition to such a move with the argument that used phones would ultimately be a dampener to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The country has of lately been trying to position itself as a major manufacturing alternative to China, per our latest report from Wireless Device (WDS) Services.
