by Rajeev Nair | 9月 17, 2015

Smartphones in the Top 5 South East Asian market went on to constitute 63% of the overall handset shipment there, in Q2 2015. The total smartphone shipments in these 5 countries, added up to 12% of the overall Asia Pacific market, for the quarter. These figures though augur positive for the sub-region, are also indicative of the scope that exists for further growth.

Our recent research from the HCST service, available (here), ranks Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia as the top 5 smartphone markets by shipment, in that order. Indonesia, while accounting for 40% of the shipments, among these 5 nations from the sub-region, also witnessed emergence of strong competition coming from local vendors, to take on the might of global players like Samsung and ASUS. Philippines too boast of a similar smartphone market dynamics.
