Global legitimate handset shipments improved by 15% annually in Q2 2021. After uneven growth in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, handset sales in Q2 2021 continue to rebound, despite component shortages, economic uncertainty in some regions and a pandemic not yet fully under control.

Among handset air-interface technologies, 5G recorded strong positive annual growth. Samsung is the volume leader of the overall global handset market, followed by Xiaomi, Apple, OPPO and vivo.

5G handset shipments continue to grow, up 186% annually in Q2 2021. Apple leads in the growing segment, followed by Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO and Samsung. The number of 5G markets worldwide is steadily growing and 5G handset volumes are poised for continued strong growth. Chinese vendors have used strength in their domestic market as a springboard to grow 5G shares elsewhere.
