Rumours of this technology coming to smartphones have been floating around for some time now and finally it looks like time is right for an A-lister smartphone vendor to bring the technology into mass market. The technology is of course liquid lens and vendor to bring this advanced technology to markets is Xiaomi.

Last week Xiaomi posted several pictures and a video to Chinese social media platform Weibo teasing with the new technology. Apparently it will be a key selling point of the soon-to-be-released Xiaomi Mi Mix device.

Liquid lens offers many benefits over conventional multi-lens structure. The lens mimics the lens of an eye. Xiaomi's self-developed liquid lens makes it possible for macro and telephoto to coexist in same sensor.
