India: From Smartphone Manufacturing to an Export Hub

by Rajeev Nair | 1月 16, 2020

India is firming up to be a smartphone export hub, again with active government support. It is already gone a notch up in smartphone manufacturing, per our report available  here from the Emerging Devices Technology (EDT) Services.

Production Linked Incentives (PLI’s) are likely to be unveiled for top manufacturing and supply chain firms keen on making India now their export hub. The government has a very ambitious target of more than US$ 100 billion by 2025.

The beneficiaries of such a move would not just be lead global smartphone manufacturing entities like Foxconn but would also include local vendors, who have been in many ways forced to expand their international operations due to intense competition in the domestic markets.
