3D Imaging in Smartphones

by Ville-Petteri Ukonaho | 5月 02, 2017

Sales of 3D Imaging enabled smartphones are poised to take off. Main use cases for 3D imaging are advanced security and augmented reality (AR) solutions. Strategy Analytics predicts in its latest report that 3D Imaging will see over 1700% growth during next six years and will become one of the key differentiators in higher-end smartphones.

Apple PrimeSense and Google Tango are forerunners in this new area of technology that several vendors are looking into when searching ways to augment the usage of cameras in the smartphones. New advanced security solutions will push the technology into the mainstream premium phones.

Stereo Imaging, Structured Light and Time of Flight are technologies that we forecast will be in the front and center when creating new augmented reality solutions and security systems.
