CES 2017 : What You Can Expect

by Woody Oh | 1月 04, 2017

Analysts from our devices services across Emerging Devices Strategies / Wireless Smartphone Strategies / Handset Country Share Tracker / Smartphone Model Tracker are attending CES 2017, one of the biggest and hottest mobile and electronic trade shows, in Las Vegas, US, this week, from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th January, 2017.

Mobile devices including smartphones as well as Robots / Drones / AI (Artificial Intelligence) will continue to be an integral part of the show. We will be blogging live from the show every day.

Here are five mega trends across the mobile device industry we expect to see at CES 2017:

1. Competitive Chinese Vendors : Several Chinese Handset Vendors including Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo-Motorola, TCL-Alcatel, Xiaomi and LeEco will be sure to demonstrate their stylish mobile line-ups during the show. It is worth noting that Xiaomi will make a debut in CES, and conduct "invite only" news conference to be showcasing their new products.

2. Competitive Mid / High-tier Smartphones : It is expected that Samsung is unveiling the new A series smartphones, from 4.7 inch A3 2017 to 5.7 inch A7 2017 version with focus on design / water-proof / Samsung Pay. Also LG is expected to unveil a couple of mid / high-tier smartphones including K-series devices and Pen-equipped Stylus 3. Also a number of tier-1 / tier-2 vendors will be unveiling their new mid and high-tier smartphones, such as Honor 6X from Huawei, to catch the attentions.

3. Captivating AR-compatible Smartphones : Lenovo-Motorola led this niche market last year, commercializing the Phab 2 Pro smartphone, based on Google Tango technology, supporting AR functions with several sensors and proprietary software, and might unveil their 2nd version during the show. Asus, the Taiwanese vendor, is highly likely to unveil the 2nd Google Tango-based AR-supporting smartphone, dubbed as Zenfone AR, powered by Qualcomm SoC.

4. Artificial Intelligence on Smartphone / Robot / Drone : The fascinating AI technology is widely used across all kinds of industries across Automotive and Home Appliances, and are being deployed on smartphones, robots and drones, so we will be monitoring the status quo regarding the relevant trends.

5. Rising Robots and Drones : Our EDS (Emerging Devices Strategies) service is researching this new area, looking into robots, drones and other emerging technologies not only in personal domain but also in professional sectors. We will be stopping by a number of booths run by many robots and drones companies at the show, and see the rising trends.

Apart from these five mega-trends, we will pay attention to the Display technology with higher focus as we believe that display will be a critical factor in differentiating the products form-factor in the next five years, so we will be pounding the CES floor to catch the flexible / foldable / rollable display trends.

Please stay tuned for our coming CES 2017 daily blogs.
