Sony 3Q 2016 : Disappointing Shipments but Improving ASP

by Ville-Petteri Ukonaho | 11月 02, 2016

A new report from Strategy Analytics Emerging Device Strategies is taking a closer look at what is happening with the Japanese handset vendor.

Sony handset shipments fell -48% YoY in Q3 2016, though ASPs improved substantially. The vendor continued to be profitable, but only just. Sony’s focus on high-end smartphones and retreat from major markets like the USA is limiting its ability to expand its customer base and grow share.

Sony is just another victim in the change that is going on within our industry. Chinese vendors are taking more and more share as the redistribution of market shares is ongoing.

Sony has great assets within the company but has failed to leverage those effectively. Sony has failed to create a compelling ecosystem and is facing declining sales and profits.
