Ericsson Says LTE & 3G To Comprise 65% of India Mobile Subscriptions by 2021

by Neil Mawston | 6月 08, 2016

In a recent update to its popular Mobility Report, Ericsson predicts 3G and 4G technology will account for 65% of all mobile subscriptions in India by 2021.

It is a simple but powerful stat, which illustrates how India is shifting toward advanced, high-speed networks and devices at a healthy clip -- perhaps FASTER than many realize.

Indeed, if we look at SA's own forecasts by handset (rather than subscriptions), the trend toward high-speed terminals is even more pronounced! For example, our WDS (Devices) service forecasts 90% of all handsets sold will contain LTE or HSPA technology by 2021. From the entry-level to the premium category, advanced devices will be available pretty much everywhere in India in less than 5 years.

In other words, India is no longer a "mobile backwater". India has caught the 4G bug and its mobile device market is changing faster than you think.
