Grey Phone Sales Forecasts for 30 Countries

by Neil Mawston | 11月 23, 2012

According to our Wireless Device Strategies (WDS) service, most grey (illegitimate) handset sales take place in fewer than 30 countries worldwide. Grey handsets have long been a challenge for the mobile industry. Originally from China, grey handsets have internationalized and spread to a range of emerging markets beyond Asia Pacific since 2007. By avoiding some taxes and regulatory procedures, grey phones can benefit from faster speed-to-market and lower prices. However, some governments are cracking down on grey vendors, and there are signs the grey handset industry has peaked. Smartphones are quickly gaining traction in the grey market in 2012 / 2013. This published report, available to clients, forecasts global grey handset sales by 6 regions and 30 major countries from 2006 through 2017. Grey smartphone splits by region are provided, as well.
