Metal Contact MEMS Switches for RF

by Chris Taylor | 9月 09, 2020

Menlo Micro (Irvine, CA) has developed a high-reliability, metal contact MEMS switch that the company claims does not suffer from stiction.  The voltage-actuated switch has extremely low on resistance, extremely high current and RF power handling capabilities, and frequency response to above 18 GHz.

One big advantage for Menlo Micro is that its switch technology can serve multiple markets including AC and DC power markets, not just RF, allowing multiple market entry points for the company and increasing the opportunities for success.

The company, founded in 2016, has raised $18.7 million from investors that include GE Ventures, Microsemi, and Corning Glass.  The technology for the switch was originally developed by General Electric.
