Samsung Display sees drop in revenue but maintains lead in the smartphone display panel market in Q1 2019

by Jeffrey Mathews | 9月 06, 2019

The global smartphone display panel market revenue grew by 8 percent but shipments dropped by 4 percent YoY in Q1 2019. The saturation in the smartphone market had impacted the growth of key components such as the display panels as orders from smartphone OEMs decreased over the quarter.

The weak demand for display panels and seasonality impacted smartphone panel shipments in Q1 2019. However, major display panel vendors adjusted for the drop in shipments by pushing the supply of high-end LCD and OLED panels to drive revenue.

In Q1 2019, OLED segment commanded 45 percent of the total smartphone display panel revenue while LCD segment took the remaining share. Samsung Display dominated with 41 percent revenue share followed by BOE and Japan Display.

More information on the smartphone display panel market can be accessed via our latest report.  Our detailed report includes quarterly global shipments and revenue of smartphone display panels by technology and panel vendors from Q1 2018 to Q1 2019.
