Report Summary:

The connected media device ecosystem has become a critical aspect in regards to the consumer media experience; with potential to incorporate ‘smarter’ features and use cases that become an essential part of not only the media device experience but also the smart home experience. Connected media device manufacturers and software developers have the opportunity to expand the use cases of the TV – still typically considered the focal point of a family home for many – creating a hub that seamlessly connects ‘smart’ devices within the home and streamlines communication between those devices. 10/12 participants are very interested in owning and using a smart media device that acts as the smart hub for their home, streamlining the process of setting up their TV and integrating new devices, while 2/12 participants are somewhat interested. The most appealing aspect for all participants is the convenience of consolidating both media and smart home devices within the home, simplifying the method to control them through one central device to make life easier.
