OECD Mobile Voice Price Benchmarking Q1 2019 update

The Q1 2019 update of the OECD Mobile Voice Price Benchmarking service is now available for download. For a mid-to high range residential user (making 300 calls a month totalling just over 577 minutes, and with 1GB mobile data requirement and 225 text messages), the Boost Pre-Paid Anytime Plus tariff from Telstra Australia, which includes almost 7GB data, is the overall cheapest offer, across the 74 providers analysed, at just over USD PPP 8/month. Vodafone in Greece has the most expensive offer, at just under USD PPP 61, 7.5 times the cost of the Telstra offer. The OECD average for this basket (based on the cheapest offer per country) is USD PPP 24.

 

Lithuania, as a new OECD member is now included in the benchmarking system, with operators Telia and Tele2 featured.

A new switch has been included in the system, to allow users to display results inclusive or exclusive of budget brands. Budget brands are included under OECD methodology, where there is a clear link to the parent.

The February 2019 update for Mobile Voice services incorporates the new OECD 2017 baskets. The 2017 baskets are shown in the table below, reflecting a much broader range of usage profiles than the 2010 baskets, and introducing unlimited voice and SMS into selected baskets, as well as much higher data requirements.

 

The 2010 baskets are still available within the system, however, along with the custom facility. In addition to the inclusion of the new baskets, it is now possible to view the results in a wider range of currencies.

Additional operators in selected countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, USA) are available on request as part of the OECD Mobile Voice Price Benchmarking Premium Service.
