Subscriber Data Management (SDM) Anchors Telco Cloud DB for 5G Service Based Architecture

Report Summary:

Subscriber Data Management (SDM) has now evolved from capturing static user profile and status information to providing the foundation for a Telecoms Cloud Database (DB) that captures real time flow and event states for Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) to enable SDN/NFV based services and service assurance.

Today many traditional and independent vendors are enabling common access to a shared or distributed database via a Common Data Layer that mediates access to every data store and data type in the service provider network across a multiplicity of access mechanisms.

In the coming world of pre-5G and 5G ‘Service Based Architecture’ service providers will require a complete telecoms Cloud Database Management System (DBMS) that meets far more stringent requirements than commercial IT DBMS solutions.

This report traces the stages of SDM evolution and highlights the requirements for Next Generation SDM to let Telcos escape monolithic Data Centers with Distributed Cloud DB so they can outflank the OTT Cloud providers in their ability to manage subscriber and real time service data.

Communications Service Providers (CSPs) can gain significant market advantage by leveraging this strategic new database technology.
