Report Summary:

The convergence of LTE FDD and TDD systems has made significant progress. Infrastructure giants have been promoting tighter integration of the two modes, i.e. Carrier Aggregation across both FDD and TDD spectrum. Qualcomm’s support will also accelerate the commercialization process for inter-mode carrier aggregation. Spectrum scarcity and new spectrum allocations have generated additional requirements for FDD+TDD convergence especially in China and Japan. However, the initiative on Supplemental Downlink Only configuration also raises the risk of fragmenting the LTE TDD ecosystem.
