The recently published report Apple Watch Analysis: No Urgency to Build Apps evaluated the support for Apple Watch among the most popular applications. This report will look at app developers/publishers to evaluate their support for Apple Watch and what that means for you.
The goal of this insight and future datastreams is to track the speed at which the top developers and the biggest brands embrace the Apple Watch across their portfolio of applications. These companies serve as a leading indicator to others as to the necessity for supporting Apple Watch and perhaps more broadly wearables in general.
The Health & Fitness category has seen the strongest support for Apple Watch. From mid-July to late August the percentage the of most popular Health & Fitness apps supporting Apple Watch has doubled. We expect the recent launch of watchOS 2 to serve as an impetus for accelerated growth. However, as that release has just taken place now is a good moment to evaluate the current state of support among the most popular Health & Fitness developers.
Our hypothesis: if Apple Watch was having a sizeable impact on sales/downloads/screen time these developers would be quickly extending functionality to their other applications despite the pending launch of the new OS. However, the data shows that developers are not doing this.
