The Subscription TV Forecast combines Strategy Analytics' outlook for pay TV and subscription VOD (SVOD) into one model. We have done this because the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and because more and more consumers are likely to consider these services as alternatives. It is therefore vital for participants in both sectors to understand the relative scale and trends across the entire subscription TV market.
While the Asia Pacific region accounts for the majority of TV and video subscriptions, North American TV households, on average, subscribe to nearly twice as many TV and video services on a per household basis than any other region. Asia Pacific was next, after a sizable gap, subscribing to 0.95 TV and video services per TV household in 2017. By 2023, this will grow to 1.37 TV and video services per TV household.
