GE continues to build-out "Industrial Internet" by signing Global Alliance Agreement with AT&T

GE is one of the largest companies in the world, supplying a vast range of industries from appliances, aviation, consumer electronics, electrical distribution, electric motors to energy, finance, gas, healthcare, lighting, locomotives, oil, software, water, weapons and wind turbines. GE’s goal over the last few years has been driving an initiative to connect these assets together in a meaningful way, utilizing its own Predix software platform, and building a network of partners that will help the company build what it calls the “Industrial Internet”. The goal of the Industrial Internet is to connect “intelligent systems”, analytics and people that can result in “intelligent outcomes” (self-learning machines and context-based, relevant information that allows for smart decisions) to create differentiation from competitors and serve its customers more cost effectively and efficiently. This will save GE customers money across the supply chain and create a new revenue steam and value-added services that GE can offer its customers. On October 9th 2013, AT&T and GE announced plans to develop offerings that meld AT&T network technologies, single Global SIM (subscriber identity module), device expertise, security, and cloud access for industrial products like electric vehicle chargers, lighting and engines. The companies are also planning to collaborate in the AT&T Foundry innovation center to build M2M solutions for Predix, which can proactively maintain and remotely control industrial machines.
