Smartphone retail pricing analysis focusing on AP vendor averages shows devices based on Apple’s APs having the highest average retail price (attributed to brand exclusivity). Apple is closely followed by Samsung AP processors which have enjoyed a recent increase in average retail price. The steep increase in retail price for Samsung-powered smartphones occurred at the time when the Exynos-based S6 & S6 Edge flagships appeared (previously Samsung offered Exynos & Snapdragon device variants).
Qualcomm-based device pricing has remained static across the 12 quarters tracked with little deviation from the average price of 273USD (excluding tax).
