Report Summary:

BlackBerry’s struggles worsened in calendar Q3 2013 as the iconic smartphone was forced to take a nearly $1 billion charge on unsold inventory in the quarter. BlackBerry smartphone shipments fell to the lowest level in 26 quarters, since Q1 2007. BlackBerry management, recognizing that efforts to restore the company to growth will require more time, are seeking to find a lifeline by taking the company private, but as its market prospects worsen it is becoming ever more likely that BlackBerry faces the possibility that it could be broken up with several companies buying its constituent parts.
