Smartphone makers Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO and VIVO have teamed up to create the Global Developer Services Alliance (GDSA), a single platform to enable developers to publish apps to each of the OEMs branded app-stores. The four Chinese brands account for almost 60% of Android sales representing a huge user base. The alliance will initially target markets where these OEMs have strong traction. This insight examines the motivations for the alliance, the challenges ahead, and raises important questions which the GDSA need to address as they execute their strategy.
