Q4 11 LG Profits Return at Last

LG shipped just 18 million handsets worldwide in Q4 2011, dipping 42% from a year earlier. It was the vendor’s sixth consecutive quarter of slowdown in volumes. However, LG finally returned to profitability in its handset division, for the first time in almost two years, due to tighter cost-controls and an improved 3G / 4G product-mix. LG’s key challenges for 2012 include a restructuring of its feature phone unit and a strong push into LTE touchphones.
